so i've realized, if you want to climb to the "top" of the Hillsong ladder, you pretty much have to stay here at college for 3 years, and show that you're capable of taking on the responsibilities.
(i.e. majority of Hillsong TV crew (volunteers and some staff members) are/were upper year college students. only 1 or 2 exceptionally fantastic 1st year camera ops get to help out more often and at larger scale events)
so then it got me thinking... why would i want to climb to the top of the Hillsong ladder?
lets list it out:
- training/learning/education/experience in an amazing environment
- would look fab on my CV
- credentials
- making a difference in the (church) world via media
- work with "big names" (i.e. BCH, United, etc)
so whats stopping me?
- i dont like australia (i miss all my family/friends/foods from back home!)
- dont think "working with big names" is the right motivation
- how high can i go? whats the limit? will i ever be happy with it?
i've mentioned to a few friends (and some in previous blog posts) that im currently serving in positions like "camera 1 assist", "ccu", and "graphics" for various Hillsong weekly events. and even other positions like "camera op" and "producer" for Wildlife and College Chapel. it may seem like a big deal and sound quite impressive to ppl from back home. but here at Hillsong? im just at the bottom of the TV crew chain. its where all the new TV students start out.
i've also realized that all the "big events" are the ones BCH are at. if he's not gunna be present, theres less of an effort for perfection.
makes me wonder... who are they here to serve?? shouldn't the standard be the same regardless of BCH being in the house or not?
and this may be just because im in first semester of college, but why does everything in college need to be perfect as well, just because BCH is gunna be here? i mean, if you cant be real about what college is really like around the head pastor/president, then who are we?!?!?
altho, i do understand that this morning, BCH wanted to record his message for online church. so with a video clip being broadcasted around the world, (as close to) perfection would be required.
hmm... just one of those blog posts with no conclusion. wanted to jot some thoughts down.
PS. nothing against BCH. just wondering why TV crew operates this way. =P
